The whole of Liverpool are celebrating now as they read that Stuart Downing may be on the way out of the club. However, cheers turn to hands over faces as they realise it could only be on a loan deal. It’s better than nothing, eh Reds?
In all seriousness Downing has had a positive season this time round. He has flourished under the guidance of Brendan Rodgers and has finally started contributing to the goals and assists tally, something which had made him a bit of a joke in previous campaigns.
The £20m that Liverpool paid for his services left everyone laughing at them, and because he has done nothing to suggest that he will ever be worth that amount he has been told that he will be allowed to leave the club if the right bid comes in.
Errr, £40?
Fulham are the club interested in taking the former Aston Villa winger on a long-term loan deal as they look to strengthen and push for the European spots next year, but would the 28-year-old really help that cause?
Downing has scored three goals in his 29 appearances, claimed five assists, and has a duel success of 51%. So yes, he probably could. But this is Stuart Downing, so probably not.
