It’s as if Arsenal like to make the 6 year trophy drought an even harder challenge to overcome, a Carling Cup final against Birmingham look set to end this as they looked dominant heading into extra time but a stupid mistake cost them extra time as Obafemi Martins made it 2-1 with only a few minutes to go.
Move onto this week’s Premier League and 2 games in 4 days could of put Arsenal 2 points behind Man United and having to play them still at the Emirates, it took Arsenal until the 97th minute to score a penalty against Liverpool to make it 1-0, better late than never you may say but this was not the end, only a couple of minutes later a mistake from Eboue gave Liverpool a penalty which was converted by Dirk Kuyt to turn 3 points to Arsenal into just 1, a few days later Arsenal played in the North London derby against Tottenham in a pulsating 3-3 draw, Arsenal took the lead when Theo Walcott slotted home in just 4 minutes only to concede 2 minutes later when Rafael Van der Vaart equalised.
Arsenal then resurged into a 3-1 lead when Sami Nasri and Robin Van Persie scoring only for an unstoppable effort from Tom Huddlestone to reply made it 3-2 to Arsenal in a great first half.
And even then Arsenal could not hang onto the points, another mistake from goalkeeper Szczesny as he ran out and brought down Aaron Lennon gave Tottenham a penalty which Van Der Vaart scored, this causing 2 penalties in 4 days costing Arsenal precious points, Arsenal collected 2 points instead of 6, making it ironically 6 points behind now instead of 2.
