We may finally be coming to a conclusion on ‘who will David Moyes sign to replace Paul Scholes at Manchester United’. Well, that may be a bit hopeful. But the Mirror are reporting that the ginger gaffer has made a £15m bid for Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcantara.
The Spaniard is currently on international duty with the U21 in Israel and has already shown glimpses of why he is so sought after, and with Barcelona apparently allowing him to leave the club this summer a move could transpire quickly.
A stepping stone, though, is that noisy neighbours Manchester City are also interested in securing the 22-year-old’s services, but without an appointed manager at present then the Red Devils will certainly have the upper hand.
Thiago took part in 27 La Liga games last season and scored two goals. He proved his worth in the passing department as he accumulated a pass accuracy of an incredible 92%, and his 55% shot accuracy isn’t too shabby either. He had a duel success of 59%, which if we look closer we can see includes a 77% tackle success and a 62% take on success.
There is no doubting the talent of the youngster and the £15m seems a real steal if they can complete a deal, but after years of watching Paul Scholes dictate the middle of the pitch, Thiago will have a lot to live up to at Old Trafford.
