How much longer does Fabio Borini have to impress Liverpool?

Liverpool striker Fabio Borini is currently out in Israel playing for Italy’s u21’s at the European Championships where his team have secured progression to the knock out rounds. However whilst Borini will be preparing to be part of the semi-finals he may also have one eye on transfer activity back home which could have an impact on his Liverpool career.

Liverpool are expected to complete the signing of the 25 year old Spanish striker Lago Aspas from Celta Vigo very soon and they have also been rumoured to be interested in securing the signature of Sevilla attacker Luis Alberto. Both of these moves will boost Liverpool’s attacking options going into the new season and with the Suarez situation still ‘up in the air’ they will need all the attacking options they can get.

However although it is good for Liverpool fans to see Rodgers bringing some reinforcements in this could add pressure to players already at the club fighting for those positions in particular Borini. The Italian really struggled to make a name for himself in his first season at Anfield as he was dogged by injury. He does have potential though and Rodgers and the board at Liverpool must have seen that in him to spend the reported £11 million pound fee they paid to Roma. Many may feel though that this season could be make or break for Borini.

He is a player that has always shown determination and the intent to go forward and attack the opposition goal but at times he has lacked the execution and also the positional awareness required to get on the score sheet. The striker has good movement and a good shot on him though but he is very much a confidence player and he needs to get a good run in the side if he can get a few goals that will build up his confidence and he can start to fulfil his potential.

One thing Borini can’t afford to do is to let his head drop if he does that then he may continue to struggle in the side and he could fall down the pecking order with new strikers arriving at the club. Liverpool can’t wait forever for Borini to come good and they will be hoping that it is sooner rather than later.

We will have to wait and see what the new season brings for Borini but most Liverpool fans and the striker himself must be hoping he can begin to repay the substantial fee paid for him and he can start to make a name for himself in England.
