According to Italian source TuttoMercato Chelsea are ready to spend £15m on Udinese forward Matej Vydra, who was on a season long loan at Watford last season. Jose Mourinho is expecting to lose Spanish star Fernando Torres as he nears closer to Barcelona and is ready to flog Demba Ba in order to gain funds for Napoli frontman Edinson Cavani, but Vydra would offer another option for the Portuguese manager.
the 20-year-old scored 22 goals last season in the Championship in Watford’s journey to the Play-Off final where they lost out in the final minute of extra time thanks to a penalty from former striker Kevin Phillips. The young Czech international left Vicarage Road as a firm fans favourite and was expected to continue his growth at parent club Udinese in Serie A, so the reports can be considered somewhat of a surprise.
If the move was to transpire then it would throw doubt into the future of the returning Romelu Lukaku. The powerhouse spent last season on loan to fellow Premier League outfit West Brom and struck 17 goals in his stint. Mourinho has since suggested that the Belgian is ready to join the first team at Stamford Bridge and fire them to the league title, so the thought of both him and Vydra competing for a place is something of a strange one.
What do you reckon Chelsea fans, Lukaku or Vydra?
