Manchester United may finally be getting somewhere with finding a replacement for Paul Scholes, as Kevin Strootman has expressed his desire to join the Premier League, according to the Mirror. Okay, to replace Scholes is a huge ask, but the fact that the midfield will potentially be bolstered is a huge plus for those affiliated with United. After all, Anderson wasn’t going to do it, was he?
The PSV Eindhoven playmaker has been the subject of much interest around Europe after impressing for the Eredivisie outfit and then the Netherlands U21 side where he has just returned from Israel after competing in the European Championships.
With Michael Carrick ready to continue his deep-playmaking role next season under new gaffer David Moyes, it will be up to the likes of Shinji Kagawa, Tom Cleverley and whoever Moyes recruits to provide Robin van Persie the ammo he needs to fire the Red Devils to yet another title.
But it is not as easy as that.
Next season will be a whole new experience for United fans as they get used to life without Sir Alex Ferguson, but if Strootman can complete a move to Manchester then it’ll be a whole lot easier than if he doesn’t.
The 23-year-old’s agent said to the media: “He is focused on England because that would suit his style. He has the physique, the character and the fitness for it. I am certainly not afraid he could handle that level.”
