With the Mirror reporting that Stoke City will Tottenham’s Danny Rose a deal this summer, we take a look at how his statistics compare with Spurs’ current first choice and whether he should look for a move.
Danny Rose impressed immensely last season during his year’s loan at Sunderland. The 22-year-old appeared in 27 games during his stint on Wearside in a campaign they will like to forget as they managed to retain their Premier League status by the skin of the teeth, but as Andre Villas-Boas shapes his squad for next season it has been suggested that Rose will be available for a fee of around £6m.
The left-back scored a single goal, the same as Spurs’ Benoit Assou-Ekotto, but the latter wins the battle of assists with 14 to 11. Rose (66% won more of his duels than BAE (62%) did but made less defensive actions per game (6) than the Cameroon international (8).
However, injuries mixed with questionable form limited the 29-year-old to 15 appearances this season and if AVB doesn’t secure a deal for a new full-back then you can expect to see Rose at White Hart Lane next term.
The young Englishman needs game time, it is as simple as that, and whether that is in north London, under Mark Hughes at Stoke or even Paolo Di Canio at Sunderland, it is likely that the promise of the left-back spot to himself will twist Rose’s arm regarding his final decision.
