What did we ever do without 24 hour sports news coverage and social media platforms such as Twitter?
Probably enjoyed ourselves a lot more to be honest with you. The ease and speed with which rumours can spread in this modern age is quite remarkable and 95% of the time these rumours prove to be unfounded. And this, of course, makes it incredibly frustrating for us football fans as we don’t know where to look or what to believe.
Take the Gonzalo Higuain to Arsenal story, for example, which has been featuring heavily this summer already. For at least a month now Arsenal have, apparently, been on the brink of signing the Real Madrid striker for a fee of £23m and, depending on what you read, it has been signed, sealed and delivered for some time now.
More than one source reported that the Argetinia striker had travelled to London last week to undergo a medical but if that was the case than surely something official would have been announced by now?
If you thought that this transfer saga couldn’t become even more infuriating than Real Madrid president Florentino Perez announced on Spanish television this past week that the club had received no official offer from Arsenal than it gets to the point where you want to pull your hair out begging for it all to end.
At least that’s how I feel.
Throw into the mix reports of a £30m bid for Luis Suarez from Arsenal and your head is almost ready to explode.
Ideally, I would like to be put into a cryogenic freeze from the moment the season ends to the eve of the new one so I don’t have to put up with this constant rumour mill that is not exciting in the slightest. Quite the opposite, in fact, it is bloody annoying.
