A lot has been said in the last few weeks regarding the Manchester United midfield and how if they don’t fill the Paul Scholes-sized void they are already conceding defeat in the title race. However, Arsenal have also been in the headlines with their search for a striker. And although Real Madrid forward switched to Napoli instead of north London, and David Villa chose Atletico Madrid, here are three reasons that the Gunners do not necessarily need another front man.
1) It would be Giroud not to
The way Arsenal set up is ideal for Frenchman Olivier Giroud to perform. Although he hit an underwhelming 11 goals last season in the Premier League, Giroud has been scoring freely in pre season and looks like a different player.
With Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain returning to the squad, combined with Santi Cazorla behind him, Giroud is likely to better his goal scoring tally by some margin this term. Although the 26-year-old may not reach the height Luis Suarez did last season, I don’t see why 20 league goals in unrealistic.
2) Walcott or not Walcott?
Walcott wants to be a striker, Arsene Wenger wants a striker. There seems to be no feasible reason to play the whippet on the wing, especially with Lukas Podolski, the Ox and Cazorla all able to operate in a wide area.
Walcott scored 14 Premier League goals last season and created a further 38 chances.
3) Yaya Sanogo is not a no-go
Okay, it may be a little naive to suggest that the injury-prone, inexperienced lad from France can come in and hit form straight away, but from what I have seen of him I expect him to be a surprise package. His powerful frame and reactions in front of goal make him a huge prospect for the Gunners, as long as they can keep him fit.
What do you reckon Gooners? Are you doomed without another frontman?
