The wait for Premier League football is over. Yesterday saw the return of ‘the best league in the world’, but what did we learn from it?
1) Danny Welbeck can score
Despite Sir Alex Ferguson not being in the dug out, Manchester United opened their new era in style. Their 4-1 victory at Swansea sent a message to those challenging for the title but also saw Danny Welbeck silencing doubters.
He struck twice, the first a simple tap in and the second an outrageous chip over Michael Vorm, doubling his total tally from last season.
2) Don’t cry for me, Wenger
The Gunners have had a difficult few months in the transfer window and kicked their season off with a 3-1 loss at home to Aston Villa. Olivier Giroud put the capital side in front before a Christian Benteke double and a debut goal from Antonio Luna saw the Villains return to the Midlands with all three points, while Wenger and his backroom staff wept into each other’s arms.
3) Rodgers’ men are firing
Liverpool carried on their form from last season and tore apart Stoke in front of their own fans. Although they could only put one past the Potters, and the visitors had a penalty saved, their interchanging style of play was delightful to watch.
Can the Reds break the top four?
