Following on from my Javi Martinez article, next on my list is fellow Bayern Munich man, Thomas Muller. The man that I raved about so much last season because of his passion, desire and determination on the pitch. The 23-year-old has been at Bayern Munich all his professional career so you can understand where the passion has derived from. He was another crucial member of Bayern Munich’s treble winning team along with Javi Martinez.
He’s the type of player that will pop up all over the pitch, whether he’s making a tackle or passing the ball, he’s all over the place – he’s an athlete, he can do that. You’ll hear his name mentioned by the commentators more than most because he literally is everywhere.
His passing, something that I briefly mentioned in the previous paragraph, is first class. He combines vision and good execution to create a brilliant weapon to use against defenders. He can pick a pass extremely well, long or short. He’s not the most skilful of players but he’s very clever, for example he’ll use a one-two or opt for a simple kick and run to get past an opponent.
Another aspect of his game I mentioned earlier was his defensive abilities – he’s a tiresome worker that’s for sure. Muller will always track back and help his defence, if he loses the ball, he’s the type of player that will work his hardest to try and win it back. That’s what I like about him more than anything.
One final thing, as you’ll notice in the video, he pops up in the opponents box an awful lot and generally tends to score when inside. 23 goals and 17 assists in all competitions last season shows that he is more than capable of scoring a goal and assisting the team. In fact, he’s already scored three goals and claimed three assists so far this season.
As always, enjoy the video
