Arsenal confirmed the loan signing of Emiliano Viviano from Palermo on deadline day, so let’s take a look at the shot-stopper.
Viviano may have something to prove to himself and his critics which he has dragged around with him wherever he goes. The ‘keeper has spent a lot of his time on loan at various clubs in Italy, including Fiorentina who he played for last season. He signed for his parent club, Palermo, in 2012 from Inter Milan after spending half a season on loan at the former. Viviano’s deal is a season long loan with a view to a permanent move next season.
The 27-year-old Italian goalkeeper conceded just 34 goals and kept 12 clean sheets last season for Fiorentina. A decent record for an on loan ‘keeper. He’s a big man but capable of pulling off fine reaction saves as the video suggests. However, he is prone to mistakes, which is often left out of compilation videos.
He won’t dislodge Wojciech Szczesny from his place in the starting line up as the Polish keeper has been in fine form since the Aston Villa game at the start of the season. What he will provide is heavy competition for the spot. He’ll push both Lukasz Fabianski and Szczesny all the way which will improve them as well.
He has experience and will be a decent back up to Szczesny and provide depth in that position which is what Arsenal have cried out for in the last few years.
Enjoy the video.
