Reports in Portugal are suggesting that French money bags Paris Saint-Germain are ready to offer €40m for the services of Juan Mata. Here are three reason why the Spaniard should reject the advances and stay at Chelsea.
1) competition for places
Chelsea may have an incredible line up of players who can play behind the striker, but you could argue, strongly, that PSG’s is even better. For the Eden Hazards and the Oscars you have the Lucas Mouras and Javier Pastores. And with every Willian there’s a Menez or a Lavezzi.
Competition may be strong at Stamford Bridge, but he’d be no means guaranteed a place in the PSG side.
2) Premier League > Ligue 1
The excitement, some are arguing, in the Premier League is back. No longer is it just Manchester United fighting it out with another to lift the trophy – first Liverpool, then Arsenal, then Chelsea, then Manchester City, but now it’s a real open league.
Anyone from those mentioned about, to even Tottenham have a realistic chance of winning it, while the French topflight has gone the other way.
Now the billions of Monaco and PSG are ruling the division, and it will be one of those who lift the trophy come the end of the season.
3) adored by the fans
Although you could argue that it’s more important to be adored by the manager, Mata is a real fan favourite at Chelsea. He has won the club’s Player of the Year in two consecutive seasons and you get the feeling it’s only a matter of time until he is placed back in the side by overwhelming demand.
