The Daily Star are reporting that Manchester United and Arsenal are interested in Barcelona midfielder Alex Song, but here are five reasons Arsene Wenger should close the door on a potential return for the Cameroon international, despite his 93% accuracy accumulated this season.
1)Jack Wilshere
Despite have a quick fag, which was supposedly the end of the world for some, Wilshere put in a fine performance against West Brom. However, he is currently playing out of position on the left wing in the absence of Santi Cazorla, and will surely drop back into a central slot when the Spaniard returns.
2) Options
Following on from that, the Gunners have a wealth of talent in midfield. Wilshere, as well as Aaron Ramsey, Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini are capable of taking a deeper role in the Arsenal midfield.
3) Priorities
Which leads us on to point three. Wenger’s priorities need to be a centre-back and a forward to support Olivier Giroud. We are yet to see anything of Yaya Sanogo and Theo Walcott is still injured, so options are tough to come by up top for Arsene Wenger.
4) Mikel Arteta
Last season the Spaniard took up a deep central role and thrived. His creativity wasn’t capped despite his defensive responsibilities – he created 25 chances and completed 91% of his passes – and when he returns to full fitness and picks up his form he is likely to come straight back into the side.
5) Mathieu Flamini
Possible the shrewest signing of the summer, the French midfielder has been brilliant since the Emirates side picked him up on a free. The 29-year-old has a pass success of 93% and a duel completion of 55%.
