Atletico Madrid are on fire this campaign. They have won eight out of nine La Liga games so far and also all three of their Champions League fixtures, which has sparked a mixed reaction across the Spanish topflight. Many had written off their chances when they allowed Radamel Falcao to make his switch to Monaco in the summer, but Diego Simeone has got his men firing on all cylinders. But there has been one man in particular who has hogged the headlines – Diego Costa.
The Brazilian forward has so far struck 12 goals in just 10 games and has already been linked with a move away from the club, with Chelsea interested in his services – according to the Daily Star.
But how does the £32m man compare to Jose Mourinho’s current crop?
Well, in terms of goals there is no doubting who is the better out of Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto’o, Demba Ba and Costa – it would be laughable for anyone to even try and argue a case for any of the Blues players.
Costa also has a far superior shot accuracy than the rest on 73% – with Ba and Eto’o tied on 60% and Torres on 50%, but even if you add all of their shots together they haven’t mustered as many as Costa.
The Atleti man also has the physical presence over all of them and his movement is second to none. He is also Atletico’s top chance creator with 17 key passes, while between the Chelsea trio they have racked up just 10 between them.
If Jose Mourinho has the chance to sign Costa then it’s a no-brainer in my eyes, and could even be the difference between winning the Premier League title or not.
Blues fans, what would your ideal forward line up look like?
