With Arsenal containing such midfield players as Mathieu Flamini, Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey, Mikel Arteta, Tomas Rosicky and Mesut Ozil, not to mention Abou Diaby when he returns from injury, you’d have thought that Arsene Wenger wouldn’t be on the look out for yet more players in that position, wouldn’t you? However, the Express are linking the north London club with Lyon star Clement Grenier, and I’m here to tell you a bit more about the Ligue 1 man.
So far this season in the French topflight Grenier has played 11 games, scoring twice and making 18 key passes. Despite not being the strongest, his fast feet and his technical brilliance is what makes him standout from his Lyon team-mates.
He has won 53% of his duels so far in the league, including 11/16 of his tackles, whereas in the Europa League that rises to 62%. He has also scored once and created four chances in the cup, while taking six shots in his three appearances.
Going back to the league and he has averaged two defensive actions per game, but has completed only 74% of his passes.
It seems bizarre to me that the Gunners are still being linked with midfielders, but he is a nifty little player who would offer a lot to the man at the helm at the Emirates.
