Since their opening day loss against Aston Villa the gunners have gone on to win 14 out of their last 18 games and are playing some of the best football in the world at the moment.
But other than Arsenal’s impressive form being talked about, the one thing people are really impressed with is Arsenal’s midfield. With star signing Mesut Ozil being added to the likes of Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey, Mathieu Flamini, Santi Cazorla, surely this is up there with the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich’s midfield, no?
For a start, Mathieu Flamini, who started off training with the gunners ONLY to get his fitness back but impressed Wenger (who wasn’t planning to sign him at all) so much that he persuaded the gaffer to sign him up. In my opinion he has been a more important signing than Ozil. Ever since Song has left, we’ve [Arsenal] lacked a diehard holding midfielder who can play just in front of the defence. We tried it with Arteta last season, it was good, but not good enough. Flamini came on against Spurs just before half time and within a minute he made an astonishing tackle.
From that moment on I knew he was going to put his heart out and ever since then he has. He has shone amazingly and has proved to be a vital signing, a signing who wants to get stuck in every game no matter what and that is what I love about Flamini.
On to Jack Wilshere, the most talked about young English midfielder in the Premier League, simply because he’s quality. When he was out injured for a whole season and was back from injury, pretty much everyone doubted he’d be as good as he was before he got injured. But that wasn’t the case, in fact Jack has improved since then and has become an all-round midfielder, his bursts of pace through defences and his dribbling are simply unstoppable.
The only way to stop him is to foul him, which rings true, as he was one of the most fouled players in the Premier League last season.
On to Ramsey, oh Ramsey, he can’t stop scoring can he? He’s on the best form of his life at the moment, with 11 goals in all competitions as a midfielder which really is unbelievable. At the end of last season, most Arsenal fans were expecting Ramsey to go, simply because he was not good enough for Arsenal’s midfield. Wenger, sticking by him, and rightly so, has proved how Ramsey can really be vital for this Arsenal team, and it’s paid off, with all of the world noticing Ramsey’s incredible form that cannot be stopped.
Cazorla, took up a big midfield role last season, was probably the best signing out of the major midfield signings from the big clubs last season (Kagawa, Hazard etc.). With 12 goals and 11 assists in all competitions for Arsenal last season, he really was worth the buy. With lighting quick feet, he could beat a player in a phone box! He’s literally both footed, taking free-kicks and corners with both his feet last season which is an outstanding part of him. He’s also very versatile and has the ability to find a team mate very accurately after his quick nimble footwork.
And well, Mesut Ozil, who has just lifted everyone involved with Arsenal football club, ranging from the Arsenal fans to the Arsenal staff. It seems as though the signing of Ozil has also lifted the players up, has given the rest of the squad faith and hope, that we can challenge for trophies this season which is hugely vital.
Not only has Wenger bought someone who can lift the team, he’s bought arguably the best playmaker in the world, at his prime, 24 years old, for 42.5 million! With 86 assists in the whole of Europe, Mesut Ozil has the most assists in the whole world at the moment, he has the ability to seek out any team player in the hardest of circumstances. Not only can he assist anyone, he’s also capable of scoring a few goals a season as well which is expected of a world class playmaker. And that’s why I think Arsenal are now capable of challenging for trophies, for now and in the future, simply because of Mesut Ozil. He has lifted the whole of Arsenal, and now we can attract bigger and better players in the future!
