With Samuel Eto’o scoring twice, Fernando Torres scoring one and Demba Ba failing to hit the net at all this season, it is my belief that Chelsea need a re-shuffle come January. Here are three Ligue 1 strikers that I think would benefit the Stamford Bridge outfit.
1) Nelson Oliviera – Rennes
The 22-year-old has been on fire this season, scoring seven goals in his 12 appearances for the Ligue 1 side. He is a target man who thrives off balls flying into the box and has had 35 shots already, as well as winning the ball on 37 occasions.
He has 14 caps for the Portuguese national side and was awarded with the U20 World Cup Silver Ball back in 2011.
2) Alexandre Lacazatte – Lyon
The Frenchman is a player who can play anywhere across the frontline and be just as effective. He is primarily a centre-forward, though, and has scored six goals in his 11 league appearances.
He is slight of frame and relies on his speed and agility to expose opposing defenders, an asset which has earned him two full France caps.
The forward has been at Lyon his entire career, so luring him away from them may prove difficult.
3) Cheick Diabate – Bordeaux
The oldest of the bunch, the 25-year-old is a 31-time Mali international forward who has spent time at Ajaccio and Nancy. Standing at 6ft5, Diabate could be the Drogba-type player that they presently need – he has scored six goals this season in his 12 appearances.
