Who’d have thought it? Romelu Lukaku’s incredible goal scoring in the Premier League has attracted interest from none other than Barcelona, according to talkSPORT. However, for me the bullish Belgium international should reject the advances from the Spanish giants, and here’s why.
Lukaku is a player who enjoys dropping deep and collecting the ball before running at players and making space for himself. It doesn’t work, though, if he isn’t the spearhead of the attack and he isn’t the focal point of the delivery.
Should a move happen, he would be going from playing with the likes of Gareth Barry at Everton or John Obi Mikel at Chelsea, to the likes of Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta and Neymar at Camp Nou. I don’t think his style of play fits in with the patient approach taken up by Barcelona.
Lukaku is a rugged player who loves the pace of the game, also, and if the sting is taken out of the play like it is in much of the Spanish topflight, then he could struggle to adapt.
The main reason I would suggest he stays in the Premier League, though, is in fear that he will be a bench warmer and his progress will come to a halt. You could argue that he will learn more off the better players, but their presence alone could disrupt his form.
