Hamburg have had a tough time of things this season, winning just four of their 15 Bundesliga outings, but there has been one massive highlight for the Germans. Mention the name Hakan Clahanoglu and you will receive some perplex looks, especially to fans of the English game. Not many have heard of the 19-year-old, but he’s slowly changing that due to some fine performances. Those displays have apparently caught the eye of Arsenal and Liverpool ahead of the January transfer window, so I thought that I would have a look at his statistics for the season.
The teenager has established himself as a key player in the first team this season, playing in 14/15 games. The playmaker has made 26 key passes so far this term and scored four league goals.
He’s an agile player with an abundance of strength and it’s that combination that makes him such a difficult player to go up against. He has won 21 takes ons this season and almost 60% of his tackles, but it’s when he’s given just an inch of space round the box that he’s most dangerous.
He loves to have a pop at goal – He’s had 20 shots in his 14 outings, 12 of which have hit the target. Half of his goals have come from outside the pitch and three have come from his stronger right foot.
Should either of the Premier League clubs land the youngster then they will have a player with bags of potential under their arm.
