As it looks increasingly likely De Bruyne is heading out of West London to join Bundesliga side Wolfsburg, I can’t help but think selling the highly rated midfielder will be prove to be a mistake in future years.
I can understand the youngsters frustration at the limited opportunities available to him at Chelsea but Mourinho has a wealth of quality attacking minded midfielders to choose from and I’m sure if De Bruyne continued to work hard on the training ground or to impress again whilst out on loan, first team opportunities would eventually fall to the Belgian.
De Bruyne has already impressed once in the Bundesliga, during his spell at Werder Bremen last season where he scored 10 goals in 32 appearances for the German side.
I’m convinced with a run of games in the team, Mourinho would see the real quality of the skillful midfielder. The 22-year-old has already made 18 appearances for the Belgium national team and continues to impress on the international stage.
It remains to be seen whether Chelsea will reluctantly allow the highly rated attacking midfielder to move on permanently, but it will certainly be interesting to see if he does, whether he develops into a world class player.
