While most of the footballing world are expecting David Moyes to sign a midfield player in the January transfer market, it now seems as though the former Everton boss is interested in Bayern Munich centre-back Dante. But for all those who would welcome the signing, there are a few things which makes the deal come with a sense of caution. I am in belief of the latter, and I think United should focus their attentions elsewhere.
The first con in regards to the Brazilian, is that Dante is 31 years old this year. Now, that may not seem old, although it’s certainly not young in terms of a professional footballer, but Manchester United are known to be wary about players over the age of 30.
They currently have Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic over the age of 30 in the heart of the defence.
Which leads me onto the next point – United have a lot of options at the back. As well as the two I just mentioned, the Red Devils have Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Jonny Evans who can play in the middle.
My last point is that he is not the type of player I believe they should be aiming for. Dante is a powerful player but nimble on his feet, and I believe they should be after a rapid defender who isn’t too fancy on the ball, but will make up for any mistakes that he or his colleagues should make.
For me, United should be concentrating on other targets.
