With Arsenal slipping up against Southampton last night, Manchester City now have the chance to top the Premier League should they beat Tottenham at White Hart Lane tonight. With Spurs having won five of their last six though, it won’t be an easy task, but Manuel Pellegrini will fancy his chances. Here is how I would play it if I was in charge of the Etihad side.
First thing is first, I would certainly be playing two up top. The two strikers choose themselves too, with Sergio Aguero and Alvaro Negredo scoring for fun this season. Their link up play and their movement has the ability to cause all sorts of problems against Tim Sherwood’s men and I am sure they have been working hard in training.
Secondly I would look to the wings to try and bypass the tight Spurs midfield. Yaya Toure and Fernandinho should be looking out wide to the likes of David Silva and Jesus Navas to get in behind the Spurs full-backs and creating opportunities for the front two.
I would also choose Matija Nastasic over Demichelis. The Serbia international, I feel, can handle the bigger games and has shown that he can be a calming influence to his team-mates, whereas I see the Argentine as a bit of a calamity.
City will certainly be favourites, though they will have to work hard to get the three points.
