We are now 24 games into the current Premier League season and things are getting juicy. The January transfer window has slammed shut so squads are shaping up to play out the remainder of the season, while the table is shaped in a way that clubs know what they are playing for.
The bottom of the English top tier is incredibly tight, with the bottom half being separated by only six points, but it’s one of the closest fights for the title that we have had in previous years too.
Arsenal currently lead the way on 55 points, but with Manchester City having a game in hand and on 53 points Manuel Pellegrini’s men could climb above them this evening. Close behind is Chelsea on 50 points, who also have a game in hand over Arsenal, and Liverpool occupy fourth place on 47.
It’s the Reds who I want to talk about in this article though, because I thoroughly believe that they will clinch fourth position this season. They are presently two points ahead of Everton who are fifth and three aloft of Tottenham in sixth, but what is probably most surprisingly they are seven ahead of Manchester United in seventh.
There are a few reasons why I think they are good for a top four place, and if you read on then you will discover those.
