Think of Chelsea and the chances are that your mind will instantly flicker to the likes of Jose Mourinho, Didier Drogba and John Terry. The first is the manager who has guided the club to so much success over the years and the second was the spearhead of their attack during that successful era, but it is the latter who has really been at the heart of the west London club over the last 16 years or so.
The skipper’s contract runs out in the season though and many thought that he would leave the club come the summer, but the Daily Mail say that it’s likely that he will sign a one-year contract extension.
The news is undoubtedly positive for Blues fans for many reasons. The first is that he provides them with a solid centre-back with vast experience and the heart of a lion. He has been the main centre-half at Stamford Bridge for some time now and has proved as reliable as they come.
The second is the impact that he has with the younger players, and with Kurt Zouma on his way in the summer it could have a major impact on the young centre-back.
Terry is a natural born leader and has commanded his backline brilliantly this year, combining with Gary Cahill to make the strongest defence in the Premier League, and I think a year is the least he deserves.
