Chelsea: A Closer Look At Mourinho’s Three-Man Striker Shortlist

Chelsea’s record in the Premier League this season is a pretty impressive one – They have won 16 of their 24 games so far and drawn five, but they also have the best defence in the topflight having conceded just 20 goals. Closest to them in that respect is Arsenal on 21, but after that is Everton on 25.

Their backline of Branislav Ivanovic, John Terry, Gary Cahill and Cesar Azpilicueta, or Ashley Cole on occasions, has been immense in every sense of the word. There is a nice blend of physical bullishness and composure in their distribution but it is their strength and their desire to keep clean sheets that has impressed spectators.

Moving into the middle of the field the Blues are equally as impressive, and even more so now they have Nemanja Matic on their books. The Serbia international sit alongside the likes of Ramires, Frank Lampard and John Obi Mikel in the middle of the park, with Eden Hazard, Willian and new boy Mohamed Salah just ahead. And that’s not even mentioning Oscar or Andre Schurrle.

Up top is another story though, as Jose Mourinho finds himself with three strikers who I would describe as average. Samuel Eto’o’s form has picked up slightly in the last few weeks but Fernando Torres and Demba Ba have struggled to find any form at all this term.

It comes as no surprise then that the there are reports that the Portuguese coach has three world-class strikers lined up for the summer. Press start to find out who they are, how they would fit in and whether I think the Blues should be moving for them.
