The summer was a manic one for Arsenal – the Gunners secured a record deal for Real Madrid playmaker Mesut Ozil and in turn have reaped the rewards. They have sat top of the Premier League for the majority of the season, and although they are now a point behind Chelsea they have the chance to jump above them in the remainder of the season. The January transfer window was a little quieter for the north London club, but one name that kept cropping up was Julian Draxler.
Wenger failed to land the 20-year-old despite his best attempts, apparently, but there could be some good news for the wily old Frenchman now through Sky Sports News.
The reports suggest that Schalke will let him go in the summer if an offer comes in for him, with coach Jens Keller saying it’s out of his hands. It’s definitely a positive for the Gunners as he’s a wonderful player, but if they brought him into the club in the summer then where would he fit in?
The natural spot is on the right of midfield, though Draxler is a naturally central player. With Santi Cazorla and Mesut Ozil in the left and centre of the attacking unit, it leaves the right side of midfield for a creative player who is willing to take players on.
The beauty of the Arsenal set up is the flexibility though and to have the aforementioned duo and Draxler interchanging would be incredibly impressive.
