Chelsea captain John Terry is out of contract this summer, but is hopeful that he can sign a new deal to end his career at Stamford Bridge, according to Sky Sports. Here are three reasons why the Blues must keep hold of him.
1) Kurt Zouma
Chelsea secured the signing on Zouma in January, though he would continue to play for Ligue 1 side Saint-Etienne until the summer.
He is a naturally strong player whose athleticism carries him in games, but his defensive abilities are also strong, if a little bit raw. John Terry is the perfect man to show him the ropes at Stamford Bridge – the opportunity to cut your teeth next to a former England captain and someone who has over 600 appearances in the Premier League for Chelsea, doesn’t come around too often.
2) This seasons stats
This season Terry is a main reason why the Blues have the best defence in the top tier. In his 33 league games, he has averaged 6.6 clearances, one interception and 0.9 tackles per game. It’s a similar story in the Champions League, and between the two competitions he has completed over 90% of his passes and scored twice.
3) Leader
When Terry is on the pitch, Chelsea look a stronger outfit. That’s no coincidence. The skipper motivates his team-mates and acts like a manager on the field. To strip the club of that after the season he has would be ridiculous, in my opinion.
