If Arsenal manage to secure the FA Cup next week, I am sure there will be some Gunners that consider this a good season, despite their freefall in the Premier League. They led the English top tier for a huge number of weeks, so here are their five best players in the league, according to the statistics.
1) Laurent Koscielny
The France international has had a superb campaign, having played 32 games in the middle of defence. The 28-year-old averaged 11 defensive actions per game, winning 43 tackles, 50 of his 96 headers and accumulating a pass completion of 93%.
2) Per Mertesacker
The giant German has been the heartbeat of the Gunners backline and played in 35 of the Gunners 38 league games. He averaged nine defensive actions per game, won 89 headers, 29 tackles and completed 92% of his passes, like Koscielny.
3) Santi Cazorla
He may not be the quickest player, but he is exceptional on the ball and he proved it again this season. Apart from Mesut Ozil, Cazorla created the most chances at the club (66) and scored four goals. He also finished the season with a 60% shot accuracy.
4) Wojciech Szczesny
The Poland international kept 16 clean sheets in his 37 Premier League games this season and averaged over two saves per game. He was magnificent.
5) Bacary Sagna
The Frenchman made 21 key passes in his 35 games and won 57% of his tackles. He won half of his take ons, and won 119 headers from the 177 he went up for.
