According to reports, Manchester United have pulled out of the running to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos. To me, that seems like a foolish thing to do. The Germany international would be the perfect acquisition for the Red Devils and would go some way to plugging the hole in midfield. Here’s why Louis van Gaal would be making a mistake should he pull out.
Kroos is one of the most impressive players in Europe when it comes to retaining the ball and that’s exactly what United need in van Gaal’s system.
While he and Michael Carrick pick the passes and keep the ball moving, the likes of Juan Mata, Adnan Januzaj and Shinji Kagawa can penetrate the opposition and leave Wayne Rooney and van Persie to clean up in front of goal.
Kroos played 29 Bundesliga games this season and completed 92% of his passes, created four assists and averaged 1.8 shots per game.
He also spreads a sense of composure into the sides he plays for, as we saw in the Champions League this season.
This video will explain it without words, but Manchester United would be foolish to pull out of this race.
