With David Luiz supposedly on his way out of Chelsea, the Blues will need another face in their thin defence. Mourinho’s men had the best defensive record in the Premier League last season and have Kurt Zouma coming in over the summer, but that would leave them just Gary Cahill, John Terry and the aforementioned Zouma. Reports are now linking the club with Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane. Here’s why it would be a good move for the Blues.
Varane is a player who needs games but he has managed just 38 in the league for the capital club. The 21-year-old is used as back up to Sergio Ramos Pepe but he is too good for that.
He has the potential to be the future of the Chelsea defence with Zouma, and I think they should be bedded in with Terry and Cahill’s help.
Varane is a five-time France international and is exactly the type of player Chelsea need: He completed 90% of his passes last season and made 47 clearances.
He also made 22 interceptions.
For me, he would be a cracking signing.
