Liverpool suffered heartache at the back end of last season after looking likely to win the Premier League trophy for the first time. Brendan Rodgers had the Reds firing on all cylinders but their feeble backline cost them dearly, and Manchester City won gold. A few tweaks will have to be made this summer ahead of next season, so here is how I would play it if I was in charge.
Going back to the defence, I would look to sign Dejan Lovren from Southampton. Liverpool may have already wrapped up the transfer of Rickie Lambert and be on the trail of Adam Lallana, but I think Lovren would be the most important of the three.
He is a natural leader and would shore the defence up no end.
The next person I would move for is Max Meyer of Schalke, who the Express are reporting is an £8 million target. He really is an exciting playmaker and can play anywhere in attack, so would naturally fit in at Anfield.
He is still only 18 but he scored six goals in the Bundesliga last season and created 39 opportunities for his side.
Last but not least I would like to see Joe Allen offloaded. Yes he improved a lot last season but I still think he is a level below our first team midfielders and he slows down our play too much.
Liverpool fans, do you agree?
