English media outlet Daily Star have come out with a story claiming that Arsenal are keeping tabs on Aston Villa midfielder Fabian Delph. Reports have claimed that the rising English star is reluctant to extend his contract at Villa Park and the Gunners are looking to take advantage of the situation. Delph has recently been called upon England coach Roy Hodgson in an International friendly and also made a substitute appearance in the Three Lions’ Euro 2016 qualifier against Switzerland.
The 24 year old impressed at Stamford Bridge despite seeing his side lose by 3-0 against Chelsea. The Clarets and Blue are desperate to tie him down with a bumper contract which would see the player earn £50,000 a week in a four year contract. Villa owner Randy Lerner holds the player in high esteem and Delph has high regards for the way the club looked after him when he was out with two long-term injuries. Delph joined Villa in 2009 and was named the club’s supporters’ player of the year last term.
Arsenal are in desperate need of a central defensive midfielder who can protect the back four. Despite Delph not being exactly that type of player, he is more in the Aaron Ramsey mode who is runner and can carry the ball from the midfield to join attacks up front.
