Manchester United desperately trying to seal £40m transfer

According to reports in English tabloid METRO, Manchester United are possibly working already to sign Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels in the upcoming January transfer window.  The Red Devils had a bid rejected in the summer for the German international but the Premier League giants aren’t willing to give up and are now preparing a mega £40m bid to sign the World Cup Winner.

METRO have also quoted Spanish media source Fichajes that United will tempt Hummels to make the move to Old Trafford by offering the player huge wages which they believe will be difficult to turn down. United’s desperation to sign the centre back is understandable given they are having a torrid time to organize their back four. Patrice Evra, Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand all left in the summer as there appears to be an enormous voice in the heart of the back four. The Red Devils’ back four has come under tight scrutiny in the new season, something which Louis Van Gaal is desperate to plug in the upcoming winter transfer market.

Hummels would easily fit into United’s starting eleven but had reaffirmed his desire to stay at Westfallenstadion just some days back. The 25-year-old defender had claimed that he wouldn’t move to a club just because they had a ‘bigger reputation’. Hummels also praised Dortmund’s attacking style of football.

Dortmund though but have made a slow start to the new season in the Bundesliga and currently lie in 13th in the standings. United thus will be looking to tempt the centre back to jump to the offer to play in the Premier League, something which would be hard to turn down. Also it is believed that Hummels is demanding big money in his new contract at Dortmund, something which the club aren’t willing to offer.
