Manchester United are yet to reveal officially whether they have signed former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes or not. The Spanish international has been training with the club since last month which has fueled speculation that he will sign with them once he is 100%fit. Victor Valdes has immense experience at top level after winning all possible trophies with Barcelona including Champions league.
United’s current 1st choice goalkeeper David De Gea however dropped a hint that they have already signed him as he told AS TV, “Yes, my contract runs out in 2016. But they didn’t sign him for that.
“Victor had a difficult injury, he had a bad time and the boss knows him well and has given him the opportunity to recover there.
“Yes, Victor is training over in Manchester — he’s still not 100 percent after his injury. When he is fully fit he will start to train with us. He’s still not training in goal with us. From time to time he comes out with the goalkeeping coach, but very little still.
“Van Gaal knows him well because he gave Victor his debut at Barca and has a special affection for him and, whenever possible, we have to help where we can.”
Valdes had decided last season that he would play his football elsewhere after a hugely successful 12-year spell with Barcelona. He was set to move to Monaco before being injured in March. Liverpool were being linked with him after the summer transfer window but there seems to be no progress over that at the moment.
De Gea reveals indirectly that he wants to stay
De Gea has been linked with a move to Real Madrid as a potential long-term replacement for Iker Casillas. The 24-year old has been mighty impressive this season which has made Real stand up and take notice as they search for a quality replacement for Saint Iker. De Gea has just two more years remaining on his contract but said that he isn’t looking for a move at the moment as he feels he is loved at United, “In Manchester I feel wanted. If you took seriously what is written about you, you’d almost think you’re going to a thousand clubs.
“So the best you can do is pay attention to where you are. I feel very loved by Man United.”
The 24-year old had a slow start at the club after his move from Atletico Madrid in 2011. He was deemed as too weak to play in the Premier League but has silenced his critics in the last two years with some strong performances. Just like last season, De Gea has been the best player in the United defence as the defenders in front of him have heavily relied on his often acrobatic and amazing reflex saves. United will want to tie him down to a new deal before the Galacticos make their move.
