Former Barcelona Man Refers To Manchester United Star As “Best In The World”

The former Spain and Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes who has just joined Manchester United recently has halled his Manchester United team-mate and first choice keeper as the best goalkeeper in the world. The Spaniard who has just signed an 18 month loan deal with the club has gone ahead and made this statement. Valdes who has been recovering from a long term knee injury and was training with Manchester United for the past few months has just recently signed the contract with them. The Red Devils were also quite pleased with the 32 year old keeper signing for them and will hope that he can help them win some major trophies.

Valdes will be expected to push De Gea even harder as he will give him a tough competition for a place in the starting eleven. Valdes has clearly acknowledged that the task at hand will not be easy as he is up against the best in the world, he feels. Valdes feels De Gea is simply better than his goalkeeping rivals Manuel Neuer and Iker Casillas and in an interview mentioned the same. He was quoted saying, “I think now, in this moment, David is the best goalkeeper in the world. His performances every day and in every game show people that his level is very high. He has had a great year and it is very nice. Now I think he is the best goalkeeper in the world.”

The Spaniard has made 114 appearances for United since he joined the club in 2011 and has really improved immensely this season. Real Madrid see him as the perfect replacement for Casillas and have been in the hunt for him for a long time now. On the other hand, United have offered him another new contract to secure his services for an even longer period of time.

Manchester United Officials Confident Of First Signing In January

According to reports from Spanish Media outlet SPORT, Manchester United are confident of signing Victor Valdes in January once he is fully fit from his injury. Valdes who was also a Liverpool target has been training for  the Manchester side for quite some time now and United manager Louis Van Gaal is confident that Valdes would be a great signing that too on free for the Red Devils.

David De Gea would be the obvious first choice thanks to fantastic season so far but Valdes would be a great addition who could come in handy when required. The 32 year old Valdes suffered a serious knee injury towards the end of the season while still at Barcelona. He missed the World Cup for Spain and despite having a contract agreement with French side Monaco, the club chose to break off the contract.

Valdes has been known to Van Gaal from a long time as the shot stopper had made his debut at Barcelona when Van Gaal was in charge of the Catalan side. Valdes faces the final stretch of recovery from injury and is expected to be fully fit by mid-January. The former barcelona star can be expected to get a run in the cup games should he sign a contract with United. David De Gea has been linked with a move to Real Madrid but there is absolutely no way that the Spaniard would be allowed to let go by the Red Devils.

Transfer Blow For Manchester United As Spanish Star Set To Move Elsewhere

Manchester United are set to lose out on former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes as reports have emerged that the 32-year old could move to Mexican side Queretaro.

Earlier in the week, MARCA had reported that Valdes, who has been training with Manchester United, is keen to sign a contract with them. However, there is no news on a possible contract offer from United.

Valdes had agreed a move to AS Monaco in March this year after admitting that it would be his last season in Spain, however, an unfortunate injury ended his season and  the move to Monaco collapsed as he cancelled his pre-contract. Since then, he has been linked with a move to United’s rivals Liverpool as well, but transfer talks broke down between the two parties as the Merseyside club wanted him to prove his fitness.   United’s current first choice David De Gea had given a hint that his side will sign Valdes eventually.

If Valdes does move to Mexico, then he’ll follow the route taken by another Barcelona player Ronaldinho. The Ballon d’Or winner moved to Liga MX this season for a free transfer from Atletico Mineiro.

Manager Louis Van Gaal was the one who introduced Valdes into the first team when he was the boss at Barcelona and could play a big role in the transfer. At 32, Valdes still has a few years left in him as keepers tend to get better with age, so despite Queretaro’s interest, the former Spanish international could wait for other offers to develop and decide on his next destination.

The Barcelona youth academy product was recently named as the best goalkeeper in the history of La Liga ahead of ex-Spanish teammate Iker Casillas. He had made 387 for Barcelona in the League and won 20 titles. He also won the famous Zamora trophy a record five times with the club.

Spanish Superstar keen to complete Manchester United move in January

Manchester United could well have another goalkeeper in their squad by the time the January transfer window reopens. According to reports from Madrid based Spanish media outlet MARCA, former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes who is training with the Red Devils for the past two months is now eager to sign a contract with the Old Trafford side. The report claims that Valdes is eager to sign for United now that he is a free agent after being released by Barcelona in the past summer.

The Spaniard who has immense experience under his belt has fully recuperated from his injury sustained last season, one that saw him miss the World Cup in Brazil. Valdes had earlier agreed terms to sign for French side Monaco but the club pulled back their offer after the goalkeeper got injured. It is believed that Valdes had a huge offer from Monaco and their had been a contractual dispute with the nouvea riche French outfit. Valdes has now however settled the dispute and is eager to get back to playing ways.

Should Valdes sign for United, there would be a sense of uncertainty with David De Gea’s future. The Manchester United number one has attracted the interest of Real Madrid who are keeping close tabs on the player. However, it would be stupid from manager Louis Van Gaal if he allows De Gea to move in January as the goalkeeper has been in stunning form this season. This could also mean that the out of favour Anders Lindegaard could leave the club. The Dutch star has already made it clear that he wants to pursue his career elsehwere and is willing to move on due to a lack of game time.

De Gea Drops A Big Transfer Hint – Deal Done For This Champions League Winner?

Manchester United are yet to reveal officially whether they have signed former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes or not. The Spanish international has been training with the club since last month which has fueled speculation that he will sign with them once he is 100%fit. Victor Valdes has immense experience at top level after winning all possible trophies with Barcelona including Champions league.

United’s current 1st choice goalkeeper David De Gea however dropped a hint that they have already signed him as he told AS TV, “Yes, my contract runs out in 2016. But they didn’t sign him for that.

“Victor had a difficult injury, he had a bad time and the boss knows him well and has given him the opportunity to recover there.

“Yes, Victor is training over in Manchester — he’s still not 100 percent after his injury. When he is fully fit he will start to train with us. He’s still not training in goal with us. From time to time he comes out with the goalkeeping coach, but very little still.

“Van Gaal knows him well because he gave Victor his debut at Barca and has a special affection for him and, whenever possible, we have to help where we can.”

Valdes had decided last season that he would play his football elsewhere after a hugely successful 12-year spell with Barcelona. He was set to move to Monaco before being injured in March. Liverpool were being linked with him after the summer transfer window but there seems to be no progress over that at the moment.

De Gea reveals indirectly that he wants to stay

De Gea has been linked with a move to Real Madrid as a potential long-term replacement for Iker Casillas. The 24-year old has been mighty impressive this season which has made Real stand up and take notice as they search for a quality replacement for Saint Iker. De Gea has just two more years remaining on his contract but said that he isn’t looking for a move at the moment as he feels he is loved at United, “In Manchester I feel wanted. If you took seriously what is written about you, you’d almost think you’re going to a thousand clubs.

“So the best you can do is pay attention to where you are. I feel very loved by Man United.”

The 24-year old had a slow start at the club after his move from Atletico Madrid in 2011. He was deemed as too weak to play in the Premier League but has silenced his critics in the last two years with some strong performances. Just like last season, De Gea has been the best player in the United defence as the defenders in front of him have heavily relied on his often acrobatic and amazing reflex saves. United will want to tie him down to a new deal before the Galacticos make their move.

LVG reveals free agent will train with Manchester United

Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal has revealed that former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes will train with the club. Reports confirmed on Thursday that the 32-year old will train at the club which gave birth to rumours that Van Gaal could sign the free agent as a backup option to David De Gea. However, the Dutchman did not reveal directly that Valdes will be signed by United.

Van Gaal said, “For me it’s not a surprise because I have done it already with a lot of players.

“I have a relationship with a lot of players. I gave Ronald de Boer or Edgar Davids rehabilitation possibility or training possibility when they needed that, so he is one of these players.

“Robin van Persie, when he played for me in the Dutch squad last year, I allowed him to come to our medical department to get him fit for the World Cup. It’s the same.

“I wasn’t the manager of United at the time. So I have always done that, and not only with big players but ones you’ve never heard of.”

Valdes became a free agent in the summer after his contract with Barcelona came to an end. He was subsequently linked with a move to Liverpool, but as of now, there is no progress as he refused to undergo the proposed 4-day trial with the reds. French side Monaco were interested in signing the shot stopper but opted out after he ruptured his Cruciate Ligament in March this year.

Manchester United have Anders Lindegaard as De Gea’s back up at the moment. When asked about a potential move for Valdes, Van Gaal replied, “Manchester United always have their eyes open.”

Bayern Munich are also being linked with Valdes as German newspaper Die Welt revealed that Pep Guardiola wants to sign the goalkeeper.

What Would This Super Free Agent Bring To Liverpool?

Passion, Intensity and Composure – Things Victor Valdes would bring to the Liverpool side

The summer of 2014 has been a very productive one for all Liverpool fans. The arrival of 9 new faces has instilled among the fans optimism along with excitement. However, despite nearly buying himself a whole new starting 11, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers hasn’t yet finished signing on new faces.

Reports in the last couple of days have stated that the Reds are very close to signing free-agent Victor Valdes after having rumoured to have agreed personal terms with the former Barcelona goal-keeper.

For long, Rodgers has emphasized on the importance of having competition for places among players in the squad. While the Ulsterman has signed on abundance of squad depth in his 9 new players, there has been 1 position the former Swansea boss has been searching cover for, for quite some time. Despite signing Simon Mignolet at the start of last season as his number 1 goal-keeper, the Northern Irishman has been searching for a competitive back-up keeper for the last couple of seasons. The departure of Pepe Reina to Bayern Munich paved the way for a new goalkeeper at Melwood. And if reports are to be believed to be true, Victor Valdes might just be the last new face Rodgers’ spoke about after the Spurs game.

What would the Spaniard add to the current Reds side?

Besides the obvious quality depth and abundance of experience, it’s the intensity and character with which Valdes goes about his business that will impress Rodgers in particular. Comfortable with the ball at his feet, Valdes would provide Rodgers with the option of almost playing as a sweeper behind the Reds back-four. Thus, affecting better distribution and quicker recycling of possession than usual.  A very passionate footballer – Valdes wears his heart on his sleeve whenever he takes the pitch. Vocal on the pitch and an admirer of the Liverpool boss’ methods off it, Valdes is the perfect fit for a Reds side searching for top-notch competition for first-choice shot-stopper Victor Valdes.

Valdes has played no fewer than 535 first-team games, 125 more than Barcelona’s former goalkeeping appearance record holder, Andoni Zubizaretta, with 410. During that time, Valdes has collected 6 league titles, 2 Copas del Rey, 6 Spanish Super-cups, 3 Champions League titles, 2 UEFA Super Cups and 2 FIFA Club World Cups. Although not first-choice for Spain, he was a squad member of the Spanish World Cup-winning side of 2010 and the European Championship in 2012.

Having missed out on Michel Vorm (who moved to Tottenham) and Alex McCarthy (who moved to QPR) earlier this window, Liverpool have gone right after their man irrespective of the transfer window. The fact that Valdes is a free-agent leaves the deal hanging in the balance at the convenience of either party. Still recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury, Valdes is expected to appear for a medical sometime in October and only then, will the deal be made official.

Over 500 appearances for the Catalans, 3 Champions League winners medal – Victor Valdes is coming to Liverpool and Simon Mignolet better tighten his shoelaces as this is going to be a race for number 1.
