A lot of credit goes to Chelsea’s goalkeepers who have been quite strong this season expect for a few games and have been responsible for Chelsea being on top of the Premier League table at the moment. Petr Cech and Thibaut Courtois have been the two keepers used this season and have performed quite well for the Blues. One man who has not been mentioned quite often this season is former Fulham goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer. Schwarzer is currently Chelsea’s third choice keeper after Thibaut Courtois and Petr Cech.
Thibaut Courtois, who returned in the summer from Atletico Madrid after winning the La Liga has pushed both Schwarzer and Petr Cech down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge. The 42-year-old Australian has not had a single game this season and is expected to be on his way out of Stamford Bridge. Schwarzer would be heading to Leicester City and would add to Leicester’s goalkeeping options in the absence of Kasper Schmeichel, who is injured with a broken metatarsal. Schwarzer is expected to go directly into the starting eleven of Leicester as Ben Hamer who is currently between the sticks is quite inexperienced. The details of the deal have not been provided yet but the deal has been confirmed.
The Blues manager Jose Mourinho however issued this statement to the clubs official website “I want to publicly thank Mark Schwarzer because he’s leaving us and he was a fantastic guy for us. As a goalkeeper, when we needed him, he was there for us and as a person and a professional he was an amazing guy in our group. On behalf of myself, my staff and my players, I want to say we are going to miss the big guy and we wish him all the best in his new life at Leicester.”
