Real Madrid have been chasing Manchester United’s star Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea, all season long with a view of securing his services as a long term replacement for veteran goalkeeper Iker Casillas, who is not getting any younger. At present, no firm reports have emerged of any deal between the two clubs, though these speculations have had some ups and downs. David De Gea, himself had dismissed these rumours sometime ago, saying he had no intention of a move away from England and he was quite happy being at Old Trafford.
Now, former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has come ahead and dismissed the need for Real Madrid to sign the 24 year old keeper. The Manchester United superstar goalkeeper has been sensational this season, but the recent signing by manager Louis van Gaal of former Barcelona keeper Victor Valdes, has once again raised more eye-brows, over de Gea’s future at the club. Dea Gea who joined United in 2011 has been like “a wall” in front of goal this season and is soon expected to become Spain’s No.1 keeper too. The Spaniard has made 114 appearances for United since his move from current Spanish champions Atletico Madrid.
However, Calderon has a different opinion on this matter and in an interview to talkSPORT said,
” We already have the best goalkeeper in the world, which is Casillas. We also have just bought Keylor Navas. I don’t see any need to get any other goalkeeper. De Gea is perhaps also one of the top five goalkeepers in the world but Casillas can still be at the top for three or four years. I don’t see any need [for De Gea]. I think he deserved what he got. Not only have we been talking many times about his talent and skill, which are huge, but his determination, sacrifice and endeavour. I cant think where his limits are.”
