The phrase ‘January transfer window’ tends to arouse little more than a passing interest at the Abbey Stadium, home of Cambridge United. Head Coach Richard Money, who took over in October, is working with a budget that belies his name and has focused on drilling a smaller squad into a lean mean fighting machine rather than importing reinforcements.

McLeish’s 40 day tenure ends

Nottingham Forest manager Alex McLeish has left the club by mutual consent, after just 40 days in charge. Forest Chairman Fawaz Al Hasawi told the club website: “I’m bitterly disappointed – as is Alex – it has not worked out.” McLeish was appointed on the 27th December, and won just one game in charge of Forest, he lost four out of the possible seven. The Kuwaiti hierarchy are now hunting for their fourth manager since they took charge in July.

The way things are going in the Premier League this season, the battle to avoid the drop is looking more exciting than the title race. Manchester United are currently 9 points clear of their rival Man City and the Red Devils show no signs of faltering.
