The chances are that none of you know this, but I am a Wolverhampton Wanderers fan. I have been a Wanderer since I was about eight when I asked my Dad who the local teams are, and thought the name ‘Wolves’ sounded the coolest.

What football fans witnessed this week in the form of Carlos Tevez’s refusal to play was repugnant. What Alex Ferguson has witnessed in the form of TV’s ever growing influence over football was repugnant also, in his opinion. At the heart of both these much publicised incidents is the idea of power within football and who should have the right to exercise that power.

On Tuesday evening Manchester City’s Carlos Tevez showed an unbelievable arrogance and disrespect to his team mates, manager, supporters and football in general by refusing to make a substitute appearance for his club againgst Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

The FA Cup is a British institution, when a football fan thinks about it a wave of nostalgia floods through their brain. Famous memories have been cemented into the minds of every supporter, no matter what level of the football pyramid their team are based, and as every season comes and goes, more of these defining memories from the competition are created and make their way into the history of English sport.

Personally I don’t think Lampard’s sitting on the bench should be a matter of form. I see it as the best tactical play that we can adopt. There is so much noise about it, and it just doesn’t make sense. Giggs has been coming from the bench for years and look what he gives Manchester United.
