Huddersfield set to sign Elias Kachunga permanently

Huddersfield Town manager David Wagner has revealed that the Yorkshire-based club are set to sign Elias Kachunga, who is on loan Bundesliga club Ingolstadt 04, permanently in the summer.

The 24-year-old forward, who was signed on loan with an option to buy at the start of this season, has established himself as a first-team regular in the side. The former German U-21 international, who has played as a striker for the most of his career so far, has been successfully converted into a right winger by David Wagner this season. With 37 appearances, Kachunga is the most capped player for Huddersfield this season in the league, and he has contributed 10 goals from the midfield for Wagner’s team.

Impressed by his performances, Huddersfield have decided to activate the option-to-buy clause in this contract, and the Championship will now pay Ingolstadt £1.13million in the summer to acquire his services permanently.

“I said in the summer that this move was perfect for the club and the player, as the loan gave everyone the chance to see how Elias would adapt to English football.

“I think it’s now correct to say he has adapted well,” Wagner was quoted as saying by Huddersfield’s official website.

The manager went on to express his excitement at making this deal permanent, and he feels that there is still a lot more to come from the winger, whose impressive form had earned him a call-up from DR Congo’s national team earlier this month. Wagner said, “It’s more remarkable that he came to us as a competitor at number nine, but has made the place on the right of midfield his own through his performances.

“I know he is a very popular man with the players and fans, so completing this move is a great day for the club. The most exciting thing is that I believe, at 24 years old, there is still more to come from Elias.”

Four Brighton players in Championship team of the season

The EFL have revealed their team of the season for the Championship, and as many as four Brighton & Hove Albion players have made it into the team. Meanwhile, Huddersfield Town manager David Wagner has been selected as the manager of the season.

The Championship title race between Newcastle United, Brighton, and Huddersfield is expected to go down to the wire this season. Although the Magpies are currently leading the points table, it is Brighton who have the upper hand when it comes to the EFL’s Championship team of the season.

The EFL’s official website have announced the team of the season for each of the divisions, and Brighton have four representatives in the Championship’s lineup. The teams have been selected based on the votes of the regional media representatives, who had nominated 11 players and a manager, of each of the 72 clubs.

The 4-3-3 formation was used for the Championship’s team of the season, and Brighton’s custodian David Stockdale has been selected in the goal. The 31-year-old leads the clean sheets chart this season with 18 blanks in 37 appearances. He has his teammate Lewis Dunk in front of him in the team alongside Leeds United’s Pontus Jansson at the center of the defense.

Anthony Knockaert, who has scored 13 goals from the midfield for Brighton so far this season, features in a three-man midfield which also consists of Newcastle United’s Jonjo Shelvey and Huddersfield’s Aaron Mooy.

Up front, Chris Wood, who is the leading goalscorer in the Championship this season with 24 goals in 33 starts, features alongside Dwight Gayle of Newcastle United. Bristol City’s 19-year-old striker Tammy Abraham was perhaps unlucky to miss out on a place in the side with Brighton’s Glenn Murray being the more popular choice.

David Wagner, who took over at Huddersfield in November 2015 after the departure of Chris Powell, has been voted as the manager of the season. The 45-year-old brought in 13 new players in the summer, and after some intense pre-season training in Sweden, they were off to an unbeaten start. In September, Huddersfield were top of the league, however, they endured a poor run of results in the next two months. They have recovered since then, though and are currently third in the points table with a game in hand.
