Arsenal and Liverpool on big alert as £19million french midfielder wants Premier League move

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Yohan Cabaye could find himself in the middle of a bidding war as Premier League clubs Arsenal and Liverpool are after him. The 28-year old moved to Ligue 1 in January this year for a fee of £19m but has failed to nail down a regular starting spot in the team and mostly sits on the bench.

The former Lille man has grown disillusioned in PSG and there are reports emerging in France that indicate he could move back to the Premier League with Arsenal and Liverpool being the prime clubs who want to sign him.

Despite making 10 appearances in the league this season, Cabaye has started just 6 times and has been substituted 5 times in those games. In the Champions League, the French international has played just 46 minutes.

Both Arsenal and Liverpool are looking to take advantage of Cabaye’s situation as neither of them have a quality deep lying playmaker at the moment. Mikel Arteta and Steven Gerrard have been good to some extent, but they aren’t getting any younger, a situation which begs the club to replace them immediately. Arsenal will be slight favourites in getting Cabaye mainly due to Arsene Wenger and his French connection. Another factor which could play into the Gunners’ hands is that they are slightly better positioned to qualify for the Champions League next year; a competition in which Cabaye will desperately want to play.

There were talks that Cabaye could truly realize his potential after a move to Paris as the French side are building a team that can truly challenge for top European honours, but since his move, he has struggled to get into the team ahead of the likes of Blaise Matuidi, Marco Verratti and Thiago Motta. With the Euro 2016 happening in a couple of years, Cabaye will want to cement a place in the French national team, which can only happen if he plays regularly at club level.

Arsenal target frustrated by lack of game time; Transfer likely in January

Well the grass might seem greener sometimes, but its not always the case. Yohan Cabaye has learnt it the hard way, as it seems. The former Newcastle midfielder who moved to the Parc De Princes in January for £19m has become frustrated over the lack of game time under manager Laurent Blanc.

The Arsenal target also hinted that he might have to move elsewhere to get more playing time on the pitch. Cabaye was thought to be a regular for PSG over the course of the campaign, but Javier Pastore’s impressive outings with Blaise Matuidi’s good form has ensured that Cabaye spends much of his time on the sidelines.

English media outlet DAILY MAIL cited Cabaye saying, “When I am on the pitch, I feel it is not perfect and that I often have to leave too soon. But I know the coach and staff have to make choices and I respect that. “

“Have I spoken to Laurent Blanc? No. What do I tell him? I am 28 years old and not new to the job. But I am not satisfied with the situation. Am I completely happy? To be honest, no. It is a new situation for me, but I don’t complain. It is the first time I haven’t played regularly for my club.”

The 28 year old also mentioned that his lack of game time might see him suffer on the International stage as he might lose out on a starting eleven spot for France. The former Magpie surely doesn’t want it to happen.

‘With the French team, if one day the national team coach decides to play me less because I don’t play often enough for my club, then I would need to take stock with my representatives.’

Cabaye would be an excellent fit for Arsenal in the middle of the park. His dynamic ability on the ball and wide passing abilities will surely come handy for Arsene Wenger, who wouldn’t about fitting the player in his starting eleven. Poor form for Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini will mean that Cabaye will be a certain upgrade and that he can screen the back four. The Frenchman also comes with vital Premier League experience which would be the ideal case for the Gunners.
