performance of the week goes to…

Most people will be thinking of bright lights of the premier league upon reading that title, and quite rightly so to be fair. Will it be Manchester United’s second half destruction of West Ham United, or Roy Hodgson getting one over on his old club and guiding his West Brom team to a victory over Liverpool, Newcastle hammering Wolves or even in the championship with Norwich battering Scunthorpe?

While all these results are worthy contenders, for me, the performance of the week has to go to a team clinging onto play-off hopes, all the way down in league two. The team I think deserve recognition this week, is Crewe Alexandra, for their total dominant display against a hapless Cheltenham Town. Crewe put eight, yes eight, past Cheltenham in one of the most one-sided displays seen all season.

It makes it all the more impressive, when you think, there are only three places between the two sides in the league, Cheltenham are no pushovers, and haven’t exactly got the worse away record in the league.

So, congratulations to Steve Davis and his Crewe Alexandra side for a magnificent result, and who knows, with a few more results like that, they might just make it to the play-offs after all. They’ll certainly have a greater chance of doing so than Chelsea have of the winning the premiership.
