United target told to leave or sign

Manchester United target David de Gea has been told to pledge his future to Atletico Madrid or be sold in the summer.

It has been reported that United are already close to signing the young Spanish goalkeeper, who is set to replace the retiring Edwin Van Der Sar.

But Atletico remain confident that an arrangement can be made with the 20-year old, but failure to renew his services will result in the Spaniard being sold in the summer.

Atletico Madrid’s CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin suggested they have issued de Gea with an ultimatum, renew your contract or leave.

“We have met with him to negotiate a new deal on two occasions,” Marin said on Onda Cero Radio.

“He has a contract with Atletico for three more seasons, so it is necessary to renew it and reasonable to revise his salary, which is well below his current performance.

“But at the end of the season there will be two choices – to renew or to leave.”
