It’s Cold up Here – Sunny Saarfend to do Pre-Season Tour of Scotland

Southend boss (and Dundee United legend ) Paul Sturrock is set to take his Shrimpers across the border for a pre-season tour of Scotland, which will include a 5 day training camp and a mini-tournament held at Scottish Division One side East Fife.

To be held on the 16th and 17th July, the tournament will also feature Raith Rovers and Dundee. Partly funded by the Shrimpers Trust, Sturrock said it would be a great team bonding exercise and the chance for a change of scenery and environment. As the squad did not have a full pre-season training together last summer, due to the various comings and goings, Sturrock also said it would be good for the whole team to train together and to be at the same fitness levels ready for the new season.

However, as Sturrock and midfielder Craig Easton are both ex- Dundee United, nothing was mentioned about them playing bitter rivals Dundee…….

Southend have also announced pre-season friendly games with local Ryman side Great Wakering Rovers (12th July, away) and Ipswich Town (22nd July, home).
