Posh Are Learning From Their Mistakes

The Posh, guided by Ferguson Jnr have made it into the Championship only a year after they unceremoniously dropped out of it with a record lowest points.  So what is next for Peterborough United, fans will be hoping that 4 managers in one season and relegation won’t be repeated and it seems that messers Fry, Ferguson and McAnthony are learning from their past mistakes.

Loyalty to players who enjoyed the double promotion success cost them dearly in the Championship last season, players like Chris Whelpdale, Craig Morgan, Dean Keates and Jamie Day were relied on and this lead to their abysmal performance. This time though the cull is happening, the rubbish is being disposed, and the players who won’t cut it at Championship level are being transfer listed. Charlie Lee, James Weslowski, Chris Whelpdale, Kelvin Langmead, Exodus Geoghaon, Lee Frecklington (Sicknote), Scot Griffiths and Arron Davies are all to be a subject of this cull.

Sadly record breaking top scorer Craig Mackail-Smith is on the way out and is subject of a multi-million pound bid, but every Posh fan including myself knew that and we will let him go with good will, he has been a faithful servant of the club, never gave anything less than 100% for 90 minutes and deserves to play at the highest level he can. I just hope he doesn’t wind up warming the bench somewhere.

So who have Posh lined up to replace the hole left by all these departures, it has already become clear that Sam Baldock is the man that the Peterborough staff believe can fill the hole left by Craig Mackail-Smith’s departure. A £600k bid that could rise to £1m with add-ons has been rejected by MK Dons but the ball looks firmly in Posh’s court with this transfer. Another of their top targets is Bournemouth’s Jason Pearce, who fits the bill of a young hungry defender with a lot of football league experience. A 500k bid has been accepted by Bournemouth and personal terms just need agreeing now.

Bar these though there have been all sorts of names thrown around as to who may be joining the Posh ranks next term, one name that has appeared consistently, is Wolves and Wales striker Sam Vokes who could move to Posh permanently or as another loan spell. Experienced midfielder Lee Carsley has also had his name thrown into the equation also and could be on his way to London Road.

Familiar names have been touted as well, with Nathaniel Mendez-Laing apparently on his way to Posh for another year long loan spell, which is only if parent club Wolves agree though. Leicester left-back Tom Kennedy who spent half the season on loan at Posh is being lined up for a permanent deal, but his wage demands may prove to be a stumbling block in his signing.
