Manchester United of course travel to Merseyside to face Everton on Saturday, so with that in mind it’s worth taking a look at these three players who we should be wary of going into the game:
Tim Cahill
Undoubtedly one of the best headers of a ball in a penalty box, Cahill has proved in eight years for Everton that he’s one of the best goal-scoring midfielders in the Premier League since his arrival from Championship side Millwall in 2004.
Critics believed that the Australian wasn’t good enough to play in the top-flight but he has proven his doubters wrong scoring roughly a goal every four league games for the Toffees, vindicating the decision of David Moyes to bring him to Merseyside in the first place.
Amazingly Cahill hasn’t scored in the league since Everton’s 2-1 win at Manchester City last December due to a mixture of bad luck in front of goal and injury trouble. He’s certainly due a goal and United’s defence will have to mark him tightly, which won’t be easy to do.
Royston Drenthe
Who was voted as UEFA’s star player of the 2007 U21 European Championships? The answer to that question was of course Drenthe who at the time was seemingly wanted by every top European club as a result of his outstanding form in Holland for his club side Feyenoord.
After the Championships he signed for Real Madrid, but after a bright start began to struggle after losing his place to Marcelo and begun to struggle off the pitch as well. After two further indifferent seasons he signed for newly promoted La Liga side Hercules in a season-long loan.
Despite starting well for the Alicante based club, disciplinary problems hit again and the only surprise this summer was that he didn’t leave Madrid permanently. Drenthe though is someone worth taking a gamble on and Moyes has done well to beat other clubs to getting him on loan.
Jack Rodwell
Ever since he broke into Everton’s side in 2009, Rodwell has been spoken about as a future England captain. That’s not an easy thing to be bestowed on a young player but there’s no doubt that the hardworking midfielder has all the attributes to be a star.
Despite suffering from injury last season, Rodwell may be back to his best and due to his outstanding talent rumoured to be on the move to a number of the top clubs – in Europe throughout the duration of every transfer window – who all are rumoured to be watching him very closely.
Rodwell has been linked with a move to United over the last year and a half. Sir Alex Ferguson is aware of his qualities and will be ordering his experienced midfield to not let the 20 year old boss the game this weekend, as it would make the match become even more difficult.
