Wenger out brigade – Be careful what you wish for!

After a weekend of speculation over Arsene Wenger’s job as Arsenal manager after an interview with French Sport magazine L’Equipe. Wenger claimed to have said that he would review his position at the end of the season but after a thrilling comeback from his Arsenal side that saw off Norwich City at Carrow Road he came out and cleared up that he felt “forced” into saying he would review his position only if certain events were to occur.

Saturday was a day of many ups and downs for Arsenal fans, it started at lunchtime where the article from L’Equipe was released in which he claimed “What is hard is the feeling that something is ending” and that he ”would review his position in the summer”. Shortly after Arsenal kicked off at Carrow Road and fell behind after a mix up at the back involving Per Mertesacker. Mr reliable, Robin Van Persie equalized before half time and then later on won it for the Gunners with a delicate chip over keeper John Ruddy. After the game Wenger came out and said “my love for this club is total”.

Wenger called Arsenal “the Club of my life”. He then went on and closed the interview; his last line was “the only way I would consider [my future] is if I was not doing well enough for the club”. Lots of people have been calling for Wenger’s head recently after a frustrating summer and a season that promised so much yet ended with heartache. Arsenal are on an unbeaten run in all competitions and some of that credit has to go to Wenger.

Lots of questions would unsurprisingly be asked should Wenger decide to go, like who would replace him? Who could replace him? And could they possibly do a better job than Wenger? Some Arsenal fans would prefer not to talk about Wenger leaving as he has done a fantastic job in North London, on a tight budget he has won titles, cups, helped build the Emirates and has helped turn over profit after profit, season after season.

Would Wenger’s possible departure really put the club on a positive ladder?
