He’s won the World Cup and the Champions League.

He became the first striker to score in all international club competitions open to European teams, and he is the second highest all-time goalscorer in European club competitions.

So why would Flippo Inzaghi swap the delights of Milan, for a relegation battle with Blackburn.

Well, I’m not sure anyone quite knows the answer, but today Rovers have been linked with a sensational swoop for the 38 year-old, who is famously one of the finest poachers in world football.

It is believed that the former Italian international could be on his way out of the San Siro when the transfer window re-opens in January, after falling down the pecking order at AC Milan during his final few years with the club.

That could force Inzaghi to seek a new challenge, and the word ‘challenge’ doesn’t quite do justice to the situation at Ewood Park.

They have a manager in Steve Kean, who is constantly under pressure from his own supporters, ambitious owners who are willing to stick with their man whilst they sit second from bottom in the Premier League table ahead of a tough relegation battle over the coming months.

Stark contrast to enjoying your pre-retirement years in the fashion paradise that is Milan, while receiving a very handsome salary every week.

However, if the Lancashire outfit can get their man, it could prove to be a major coup.
