Third worst team in the country vs worst side in the land

Faced with watching the third worst team in the country play host to the worst side in the land, I wasn’t expecting a fantastic flowing game of football. And in that regard, Bradford’s 1-1 draw with Plymouth didn’t disappoint.

But it certainly wasn’t a boring match with both sides going for a victory which they hoped would reignite their season. The thing which struck me however was the level of support both sets of players received from their respective fans.

The home faithful kept with their team even when they went one goal down mid-way through the second half and ‘helped’ them grab a deserved equaliser in the closing minutes.

The Plymouth fans, who have been dragged to hell and back in recent years with all the financial strife at the club, were even more vocal in backing their team. And when you consider 521 of them made the 650-mile round trip up from Devon, I was glad their loyalty had been rewarded with a point. Contrast that with 300-odd so-called Blackburn fans who could be bothered to make the comparatively short trip up Sunderland to watch their club play in the Premier League the following day. Blackburn lost 2-1, so I was glad their ‘loyalty’ had been rewarded too!

I’m not a big fan of Blackburn manager Steve Kean but he might be better off getting a job at a club at the other end of the league ladder. Only then will he see ‘real’ football fans.
